Let's Ponder (Discussion 1): Is it true that...

In preparation of the I&E Bazaar, class S1-10 conducted a survey and found that the McDonald's "Crispy Chicken Breakfast Deluxe" meal is very popular amongst the SST students. They decided to sell a similar breakfast set in that morning.

To advertise their stall, they included the following chart in their promotional flyer.
Their publicity gimmick was, "We are one-third of what you normally paid!"

From a consumer's point of view, what is your reaction to this publicity stunt?

  13. This person is giving people a wrong perception leading to misunderstandings. He is giving false information by saying the price is 1/3 lower even though the graph looks that way. The graph makes the price look 1/3 cheaper but when you look at the vertical axis, it is only 40cents cheaper

  15. What is this? If the original is $8.40 while the SST Crispy Chicken Deluxe is $7.70. It is not even one-third of the price! Group 4

  18. Group4 : At first, the graph made the SST Crispy Chicken Deluxe look much cheaper than the Crispy Chicken Breakfast Deluxe, but after examining the graph for a while, the mistake of the graph would change the consumer's point of view of the one who sold the Deluxe meal, as the graph and the claim do not give the same information.
